It can be helpful to be strategic about where we put our efforts when we start thinking about self-improvement so that we don't waste time on the wrong things. There are aspects of ourselves that are relatively adaptable while others are pretty much fixed. Therefore, concentrating our efforts on the aspects of ourselves that are most susceptible to change serves us best. It can be challenging for us to determine precisely what needs to be changed and how to do it given that there are businesses out there that tell us we can change any aspect of ourselves. 1.Participate in self-reflection

Self-reflection is an essential component of self-awareness. We may not have a clear self-concept, or our self-concept may not match how others see us, if we do not practice self-reflection (Johnson et al.,2002).We can learn more about the parts of ourselves that we might like to improve and how to do so by reflecting on ourselves.

2.Try mindfulness

The practice of paying attention to the present moment is known as mindfulness. It also requires an attitude of acceptance and curiosity rather than judgment, as well as the acceptance of thoughts and emotions as fleeting states (Bishop et al.,2004).Mindfulness, like self-reflection, may make us more open to experiences and possibilities that can help us improve ourselves.

3.Develop a growth mindset (Dweck, 2015)

A growth mindset is one in which we believe that we are capable of learning new skills. We are more likely to put in the effort necessary to learn and grow if we have a mindset that we can change. Consequently, developing a growth mindset can assist us in achieving many of our objectives and enhancing ourselves in the desired ways.

4.Acknowledge feelings of shame

The fact of the matter is that many of us are motivated to work on our own improvement as a result of societal pressures (Sedikides & Hepper, 2009), external expectations, or even shame about the fact that we are not good enough in some aspect of our lives. However, even if we achieve our self-improvement objectives, we will likely feel unfulfilled if we strive to improve ourselves solely for the benefit of others. Consider your motivations for self-improvement, acknowledge any shame you may be harboring, and reevaluate your goals to ensure that they are in line with your core values.
